Introduction: Cancer of the prostate (CaP) is most common cancer among black men. The incidence rising in Africa. Prostate biopsy standard procedure for diagnosis CaP. an invasive and associated with pain. This can be emotionally psychologically traumatic patient. Intrarectal gel administration relatively non-invasive, easy to administer, cheap has acceptable time onset action. Methods: a prospective study determine analgesic effect intrarectal lidocaine digitally guided transrectal biopsy. was carried out at University Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. Ethical approval sought obtained from hospital’s ethical committee. tertiary institution capital Rivers State southern Nigeria. sample size calculated 159. patients then filled Visual Analogue Scale score (VAS) 5 minutes after Results: mean age 66.19 ±8.1. volume 72.74±52.17. VAS 3.63±2.38 over half 28(52.8%) those this group had mild pain while 17(32.1%) 8(15.1%) moderate severe respectively. Conclusion: Lidocaine good option analgesia during better when contact should 30 or more.
